When reading instruction is well-designed, a child needs just a few
key skills to start on the path to success. You can see if your
child has those skills by answering the 4 questions below.
1. Can your child regularly sit and carry out
school like activities for 15 minutes at a time?
2. Does your child consistently speak in sentences?
Examples:
“What are we going to do today?”
“Mommy, can we please go swimming after the supermarket?"
"My teacher did not come to school today. She was sick."
3. Can your child match shapes?
Can your child identify which shape on the right matches
the shape in the left column?
4. Can your child hold crayons or magic markers to create
drawings?
